Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi reboot is making all the noise on the internet. With the iconic show’s return, several actors from the serial have also garnered spotlight in recent times. Amar Upadhyaya and Apara Mehta, for instance, have garnered attention from netizens as the actors are ready to reprise their old roles of Mihir and Savita Virani. Actress Smriti Irani is also making headlines, but this time, it's for another reason. A clip featuring Ram Kapoor has gone viral on the internet as he commented on his co-star Smriti Irani’s appearance back then.
Ram Kapoor was in conversation with Humans of Bombay, and during the interview, the actor candidly talked about his body image in the industry. He started to shed light on the fact that the success in this industry demands you to look a certain way. But things soon escalated when he brought Smriti Irani into the picture. He said, “She was my size as a woman and probably more successful than me. It is just that she left earlier.”

He continued to talk about Smriti Irani’s physical transformation and mentioned, “When she started Kyunki Saas and when she ended, she was huge. Her logic was now I have played a character who has taken so many leaps. ‘Now I am playing a grandmother.’ So you see her in the first year of Kyunki to last year, you will notice that she is as big as I am. We were equally successful.”
These comments from the celebrated star left netizens furious as they considered this as bodyshaming wrapped in praises. “She legit acted in her pregnancies. And her ‘size’ — which, no offence, she looked absolutely beautiful in all her sizes on the show — actually suited the character due to the character having multiple children, then going on to have grandchildren etc,” wrote one user. Another asked, “She acted during her pregnancy. Did you?” A third user said, “What was this question, why do we keep bringing a woman and her size in a conversation with a male?”
Reacting to this criticism, Ram Kapoor told Filmi Beat in a recent interview, “Smriti knows what I meant, and I know what I meant. The other people don’t matter to her, or me. Understand that. When you are saying something with a clean heart, and you have a reason behind it and you are saying something positive about the person who you have regard for. As long as that person doesn’t misunderstand you, nobody else should matter. Nobody."
