Ozzy Osbourne, known as the Prince of Darkness and frontman of Black Sabbath, has passed away at the age of 76. A founding father of British heavy metal died on Tuesday, reportedly after a years-long battle with Parkinson’s disease. This shocking news comes shortly after the Black Sabbath star took to the stage one final time at a festival titled Back to the Beginning with his bandmates at Villa Park in Birmingham. His death was confirmed by his family.

Ozzy Osbourne Dies At 76

A statement from the Osbourne family on X handle read, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

Fans have flooded social media with their tribute and messages of condolences for Ozzy Osbourne.

After facing health problems for two years, in January 2020, Osbourne announced that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Later, in February 2023, he issued a statement announcing his retirement from touring, citing spinal injuries he had sustained in a 2018 accident. He was quoted by Variety saying, “[I]n all good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/U.K. tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required. Believe me when I say that the thought of disappointing my fans really FUCKS ME UP, more than you will ever know. Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way.”
