Mera Lyari Trailer Out: Dhurandhar and its follow-up, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, were originally prohibited in Pakistan; however, it has been reported that these restrictions have been revoked. The spy thriller film's controversy has caused Pakistan's film industry to react strongly. Dhurandhar is intended to be contrasted with Meri Lyari, a film directed by Abu Aleeha of Pakistan.

The Pakistani movie Mera Lyari is scheduled to open in theaters on May 8, 2026. The impending release comes after recent debates on Lyari's representation in the Indian movie Dhurandhar, which depicts the region as a hub for gang violence and illicit activity. Mera Lyari seeks to present a different story based on local voices and experiences.

Mera Lyari is a sports drama where a former coach returns to mentor young ladies and assist them in overcoming social obstacles. The movie centers on two ladies who were determined to play football; it shows how Lyari has evolved over time and is no longer only characterised by gang culture and violence.

Ayesha Omar, Dananeer Mobeen, and Trinette Lucas featured in Mera Liyari. The film debuted at the UK Asian Film Festival in an effort to garner international exposure. It will thereafter be released on May 8 in Pakistani theaters. It will be interesting to watch, though, if this movie can even match the current level of success of the Bollywood smash Dhurandhar.

For the unversed, Ranveer Singh's film Dhurandhar was released on December 5, 2025. The horror of crime and gang fighting in Lyari was shown in the movie. The second part was released on March 19, 2026, breaking a number of box office records in India and worldwide. Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi were among the other actors in the movie apart from Singh.

Mera Lyari's team insisted that the plot and scope were different even though the two movies have been compared. Produced by Ayesha Omar's Hawksbay Productions, the movie sought to highlight the resilience and culture of Lyari rather than its bad reputation. The narrative focuses on the town's music, history, and residents' daily tenacity.
