Pudhupettai 4K Re-Release: Pudhupettai is the iconic 2006 Tamil gangster movie. Directed by Selvaraghavan and starring Dhanush, it is all set for a grand theatrical comeback. This special re-release gives both long-time fans and a new generation of moviegoers the chance to watch this cult classic on the big screen once again. Originally released on 26th May 2006, Pudhupettai grabbed attention for its raw and gritty portrayal of gang life in North Chennai. 

Director Selvaraghavan confirmed the film’s return on social media, calling it his “acclaimed” gangster drama. His post quickly went viral, sparking excitement among fans and cinema pages like The Hindu Cinema on X (formerly Twitter). The Tamil movie was a technical achievement in its time, having been shot in Super 35mm, a format rarely used in Tamil films back then and it was also among the first Tamil movies to be released digitally. The movie is set to release on 26th July 2025.

The Tamil movie’s soundtrack, composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The bold cinematography is done by Arvind Krishna. These creative choices helped Pudhupettai stand apart, and the 4K remaster promises to bring all of that back with even greater clarity. The story, told with emotional depth and realism, showed Dhanush in one of his most powerful performances as Kokki Kumar, a slum boy who rises to become a ruthless don. While the film received mixed reviews when it first came out—some felt it was too slow-paced and violent—it has since gained a cult following and is now seen as one of Tamil cinema’s most daring gangster dramas.
