Prem Sagar Death: The Indian television and film industry is mourning the passing of Prem Sagar, the son of legendary filmmaker and Ramayan director Ramanand Sagar. The veteran, who was eighty-four, breathed his last on Sunday after a period of ill health. Known for his remarkable cinematography and dedication to carrying forward the Sagar family legacy, Prem Sagar played an important role in shaping the golden era of Indian television. Through iconic series such as Ramayan, Shri Krishna and Vikram Aur Betaal, he left an unforgettable mark on audiences. His work continues to inspire generations who grew up watching these shows.
According to a report in News 18, Prem Sagar passed away at around 10 am on Monday. The report revealed, “He had been unwell for some time and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. On Sunday, doctors advised that he be taken home. He passed away this morning. The cremation will be held today at 3 pm at Pawan Hans cremation ground in Mumbai." Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in since the news of his demise. Actor Sunil Lehri, who played Lakshman in Ramayan, wrote on X, “Absolutely shocking news, we lost Prem Sagar Ji, son of Ramanand Sagar Ji of Ramayan. Om Shanti.”

Actor Arun Govil, who famously portrayed Lord Ram, shared, “The news of the demise of Prem Sagar Ji, the son of the late Shri Ramanand Sagar Ji, who brought the ideals, principles, and teachings of Lord Shri Ram to every individual through electronic media by giving the form of the Ramayana TV serial, is extremely heartbreaking. I pray to Lord Shri Ram that the departed soul be granted a place at His divine feet and that the bereaved family members be bestowed with the strength to endure this profound sorrow. Om Shanti.”

About Prem Sagar
An alumnus of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, Prem Sagar graduated in 1968 with training in cinematography. Soon after, he joined Sagar Productions, the company established by his father, and became one of its creative pillars. His mastery behind the camera brought to life unforgettable projects. While Ramayan became a cultural milestone in Indian television, his work on Shri Krishna and Vikram Aur Betaal also carried immense nostalgic value. His skills extended to Hindi cinema too, with films like Aankhen, Lalkaar and Charas, where he worked alongside stars such as Dharmendra and Hema Malini. Prem Sagar is survived by his son Shiv, who has also entered the world of production.
