The controversy surrounding Ranveer Singh's exit from Don 3 has been intensifying. In a shocking movie, FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees) issued industry-wide non-cooperation directives (effective bans) against Bollywood superstar. Here is the breakdown of what happened between Ranveer and Farhan Akhtar:

Why did Ranveer Singh exit Don 3?

Farhan Akhtar announced Ranveer Singh as the new Don in 2023. While some praised Dhurandhar star's casting in the popular franchise, others opposed it. However, a couple of years later Singh exited the movie, reportedly due to creative differences.

According to a report in Free Press Journal, Singh reportedly pushed for a gritty, R-rated transformation. He envisioned a version of Don that was significantly more aggressive, featuring explicit language and visceral violence to reflect modern, dark cinematic trends. On the other hand, Farhan wanted to stick to his original vision for the franchise. He favoured a 'cool' criminal mastermind over a raw, gritty anti-hero.

Repeated delays in Don 3 production

If the reports are to be believed, Ranveer Singh was unhappy with repeated delays in production and no locked final script.

What did Farhan Akhtar say about Ranveer Singh's exit from Don 3?

Reflecting on the fallout, Farhan Akhtar told The Hollywood Reporter India that he has learned to 'expect the unexpected', noting that a project isn't a reality until it is captured on film. He said, "What I have learnt is to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted till you actually have it on film."

FWICE puts effective ban on Ranveer Singh

On Monday, Chief Advisor to FWICE, Ashoke Pandit, noted, "On 11th April, Farhan filed a complaint. Three weeks before the unit was to leave for shoot, Ranveer left the movie. Farhan and his producing partner Ritesh Sidhwani, of Excel Entertainment narrated the full incident for two hours. They also presented all the expenses incurred on pre-production, which are accounted for and audited. These include hotel bookings, location bookings and overseas travel bookings for over 200 workers. Everything is on paper. Nothing is hearsay."

Pandit further added, "Ranveer had signed a contract with Excel Entertainment for three films. The entire recce was in his presence. The inputs for script were made in his presence. A promo was shot with him to announce the film."

"We’ve decided to send a message to the industry that a superstar is not bigger than the law. We’re issuing a non-cooperation directive until he decides to meet us personally. None of our sitting workers across India — including technicians, spotboys, etc — will work with Ranveer Singh," added Ashok Dubey, General Secretary, FWICE.
