Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot in June 2024 after dating for nearly eight years, sparking conversations around their interfaith marriage. In a recent interview, Sonakshi opened up about their relationship, revealing that they never discussed religion during their seven-year courtship. Instead, they focused on mutual respect, trust and understanding each other's cultures. Sonakshi emphasised that their marriage was based on love and they opted for the Special Marriage Act, allowing her to retain her Hindu faith while Zaheer remained a Muslim.

In a candid chat with Sona Kalra on The Right Angle, Sonakshi said, "In how we are as a couple, no. In how we are at home, in terms of the different ways that we’ve been brought up in, there are certain customs that he and his family follow, which I really respect and there are certain customs that me and my family follow, which they respect. Religion is something that will never come in between the two of us. There’s never been any question, fight, or tension when it comes to that, and I think that’s the most beautiful part of it. Our strength lies in respect."

Calling Zaheer "100 per cent damad" he is of her family, Sinha said, "100% damad he is. Everyone runs helter-skelter when he comes, saying ‘Zaheer aa rahe hai, damad ji aa rahe hai.’ My mom keeps asking kya khayega, kya khayega and my dad loves spending time with him. I think they’ve become really good friends. When I enter the room, it’s usually the two of them talking while I sit quietly!"

Speaking about her relationship with Zaheer, the actress said, "We say we want to find someone we want to grow old with. But after being with a person like Zaheer, you realise you need someone you can remain a child with. Ussi se hansi mazak barkarar rehta hai. You are constantly laughing. This was something I was missing in my life. Ab aa chuka hai, toh I couldn’t be happier."
