Rukhsar Rehman, known for her roles in films like PK, Sarkar, and Uri, has had a remarkable journey in the entertainment industry. However, her path to success was not without its challenges. Rukhsar made her debut in the film industry at the age of 17 with Deepak Anand's Yaad Rakhegi Duniya (1992). She also shared screen space with Rishi Kapoor in the film Inteha Pyar Ki. 

Rukhsar Rehman in a recent interview with Humans Of Bombay, opened up about her struggles and how she overcame them to pursue her passion for acting. Her parents forced her to quit acting and got her married at a young age. Rukhsar recalled, “With Aisha, I found my new purpose. Life looked perfect from the outside. I was trying to be a good wife. But over time, the cracks began to show. And the marriage fell apart.”

After her marriage ended, Rukhsar gathered the courage to start a new life with her daughter. She said, “One night, I packed what little I could and left. My daughter was just 8 months old, asleep, unaware our life was about to change. I kept asking myself, ‘Am I doing the right thing?’ But I knew I had tried everything. When my father opened the door, he didn’t ask questions — just said, ‘You’ll be okay.’”

Meanwhile, to restart her life, the Uri actress opened a garment boutique in her hometown Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, to make a living for herself and her daughter. However, the actor in her always had an urge to get back to the industry, and she did. Rukhsar said, “Years passed. One day, I grew too restless. I left Aisha with my parents — the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But I had to find myself again if I wanted to give her the life she deserved. In 2005, after over a decade away, I started from scratch — small roles, auditions, rejections. But I kept going.”

Rukhsar reclaimed herself and her career with brief roles in movies like D, Sarkar, PK, Uri, and 83. She also married filmmaker Faruk Kabir, but they filed for divorce after 13 years. Rukhsar said, “It hurt, but Aisha was by my side. I believe she raised me too. There was a time I thought my story was over. But I loved acting too much to let it go. When you’re meant to do something, you find your way back — when you’re ready.”
