Saif Ali Khan, who burst onto the Bollywood scene with his 1993 debut film Parampara, has shared a rather unusual anecdote from his early days in the industry. Following his debut, Saif found himself landing roles as a second or third lead in a string of films. In a candid conversation, he recounted a peculiar experience where a female producer made a rather unusual request - she asked him to kiss her on the cheek ten times.
According to Saif, the producer would hand him Rs 1,000 every week, but only after he kissed her cheek each time. This unusual arrangement highlights the challenges Saif faced in his early career and the unconventional demands he had to navigate.
He said in a conversation with Esquire India, "People would say, you're lucky you've got so many chances. But it wasn't that I was getting the best movies in town and being cast as the main lead."
"I probably did have it easy, but I mean, of course, I thought it was very hard for me. We didn't have the family background that empowered us to be a certain kind of movie star... our training was to be self-conscious, quiet, self-deprecating... not the larger-than-life persona that actors in the nineties were expected to have. We were taught not to draw attention to ourselves," he further added.

Saif Ali Khan was stabbed six times by an intruder at his Mumbai residence on January 16, 2025, around 2:30 AM. The attack occurred when the intruder, later identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, allegedly broke into Khan's home with the intention of burglary, targeting his younger son Jeh's bedroom and demanding Rs 1 crore.
Saif recalled the incident and said, "It could have been the adrenaline, but I remember thinking life has been colourful and I've been privileged... not just in terms of money. So many people have more. But I've lived in that rarefied atmosphere of Winchester, travelled with loved ones, the wine, my wife, my children."
