Bollywood celebrities are often seen breaking a leg at star-studded, high-profile weddings. Talking about the billionaires' extravaganzas, the recent wedding of Netra Mantena turned many heads for bringing stars like Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor onto the stage for the sangeet event. While many stars perform at weddings, Saif Ali Khan is one Bollywood actor who is rarely seen performing at a wedding. Reflecting on the same, the Adipurush actor revealed that he is not comfortable performing at such events. To back it up, he shared a humiliating experience of dancing at weddings.
In a conversation with the Hollywood Reporter India, Saif Ali Khan opened up about a memory from his childhood and said, "I was dancing at a wedding once in Bombay and my aunt, my father’s sister, who is quite a regal lady, came backstage and said, ‘Don’t tell me you are dancing at this wedding.’ So there is a bit of that. You can’t, you know."
He further added, "But if you see yourself as an entertainer, and if there is no family connection or an aunt to humiliate you for doing it, then it’s fine.”
Saif also stated that the discomfort comes from not knowing when to show up as an entertainer and when to step up as a guest. Saif also recalled dancing at a wedding in Portugal. He said, "I don't know, something about this feels alright that it's kind of happening abroad and done in a certain way."
He further talked about choosing where he wants to be seen and where he wants to take a step back, especially while living in a world where everyone has easy access to his life.
Saif also claimed that by attending almost every event, you overexpose yourself which is quite diminishing in itself. He added, "I feel now that people are going to events, being invited to film trials, and the next thing is a little alcove where everyone is standing and taking pictures, and you have just diminished yourself. People are not surprised to see film actors anymore. But I still think of someone like Ajay Devgn, who is slightly more private, and I am excited to see him in a film, excited to hear what he has to say, because a little distance has become a strong currency."
