Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, saw a massive and heartwarming opening on the first day of its release. Starring Ananya Panday’s cousin Ahaan Panday and actress Aneet Padda in the lead roles, the movie has become a hot topic of discussion. The musical romance drama made Rs 20 crore on its first day of opening and impressed the fans across India. Saiyaara has earned this huge opening with 8,000 shows across India, which is less than half the average 18,000 shows typically required for a Rs 20 crore+ opener.
Mohit Suri’s directorial has achieved this milestone without the actors promoting their movie. There were no interviews, zero city visits, no reels, no influencer content, and no visibility. Despite this, the movie has broken 4 box office records till now.
Biggest opening for a debutant-led movie:
Saiyaara has become the first movie to have the highest opening day featuring debutants as the main lead actors. This record belongs to Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter for their movie Dhadak. The film had earned Rs 8.76 crore net in India on release day. And Saiyaara has recorded a box office collection of Rs 20 crore on its first day.
Biggest opening for a Hindi romantic drama:
Saiyaara’s success is unbelievable, considering that it is not a high-octane, big-budget action movie, and it also doesn't feature any big celebrities from Bollywood. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani made Rs 11.1 crore in 2023, while Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya made Rs 6.7 crore on its opening day.
Highest opening ticket sales for a debutant’s movie after 2000:
Saiyaara’s booking numbers broke all the records and shocked the netizens. According to a report in Sacnilk, the film's final advance booking collection for the opening day was Rs 9.39 crore - 3.8 lakh tickets were sold just in pre-sales. Taran Adarsh also tweeted that Saiyaara sold 1,38,000 tickets in the national chains, which included PVR INOX (1,05,000), and Cinepolis (33,000).
