Shabana Azmi's Role In Awarapan 2

Awarapan 2 writer Bilal Siddiqui created a character from the inside out — a calm but powerful figure in the criminal world whose arrival changes the course of the story in an unexpected way. He carefully shaped the character's mindset, threat, and influence on Shivam's life. However, the character's appearance, voice, and overall presence were still undecided.

Awarapan 2 producer Vishesh Bhatt saw a bigger opportunity; introducing a woman into Shivam's world would bring a fresh and important layer to the sequel. This decision went beyond casting — it changed the way the story was told. The character became Nafisa, and there was only one person who could truly bring her to life.

Shabana Azmi has seldom ever portrayed unpleasant roles over the course of her more than 50-year career and 150 films. Awarapan 2 presents the first such turn: a role Bilal imagined for its force, Vishesh reimagined as a woman named Nafisa, and Shabana Azmi made her real.

Producer Vishesh Bhatt said, "Nafisa could only ever be Shabana ji. She brings to this role an impact, a power and a presence that are entirely her own. She came home on her birthday, and everything found its place."

Awarapan 2 is directed by Nitin Kakkar, written by Bilal Siddiqui and produced by Vishesh Bhatt. It releases in cinemas worldwide on 14 August 2026.
