Hours after the makers of Ramayana dropped its first track, Jai Jai Ram, Adipurush lyricist Manoj Muntashir posted a video of his song Ram Siya Ram on X.
Ramayana lyricist trolled over sharing Adipurush track before Ramayana release
Sharing the video alongside a devotional caption, Muntashir's post prompted netizens to speculate that he was feeling envious of the new release. In the caption, he also wrote, "The poignant tale of Ram-Siya. One is sandalwood, one is water (sic)."
Although Manoj Muntashir didn't mention Ramayana, netizens questioned the timing of his post. Many accused him of being jealous of Ranbir Kapoor’s film, while others reminded him of Adipurush’s box office failure.
A user wrote, "Isko khushi doosre ki bardhast ni hoti wo bhi hamare Ram g ka ganaa hai usse kya dikkat isko." "So much jealousy over one song, that the guy who came and added this Ramayana song, what about everything that happened in the entire Adipurush movie?" added another.
What was Adipurush controversy?
Released in June 2023, Adipurush was an adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana that faced massive audience backlash upon release for allegedly distorting the source material. Viewers expressed deep disappointment over the film's modern dialogue choices and the portrayal of key characters, particularly Ravana and Lord Hanuman.
Even though director Om Raut and the film's creators later altered controversial lines—such as the widely criticized "kapda tere baap ka" — the changes failed to salvage its reputation.
The controversy even reached the Supreme Court through a plea seeking the revocation of the film's CBFC certification, though the top court ultimately dismissed the petition.
