Recent development in te ongoing inheritance dispute, involving late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, has raised questions about the nature of relationship between him and ex-wife and actress Karisma Kapoor. The latter's kids Samaira and Kiaan submitted fresh filings before the Delhi High Court which included WhatsApp exchanges and official documents. Contrary to the long-held belief that their interactions were limited and largely transactional following their separation, these records suggest that Karisma and Sunjay may have maintained a more personal and continuous connection than was publicly known.
According to the evidence submitted, Sunjay Kapur was not only maintaining contact but was also taking tangible steps to secure Portuguese citizenship for Karisma Kapoor as well as for their two children. The process involved a series of measures that indicated active involvement and planning on his part. This move to obtain overseas nationality for the family underscores a level of personal interest and responsibility that complicates the otherwise distant narrative surrounding their relationship.
One of the chats presented in the case shows Sunjay informing Karisma that she would need to renounce her Indian citizenship to secure a Portuguese passport, since India does not allow dual nationality. The Delhi High Court, which has taken note of these materials, on Wednesday issued a notice in the civil suit filed by Karisma Kapoor’s two children, who are claiming a share in their late father Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate.
Justice Jyoti Singh’s Bench issued summons to the defendants, seeking written statements within two weeks and replications a week later. The case will be heard next on October 9.
The Delhi High Court has directed Priya Sachdev Kapur, Sunjay Kapur's widow, to disclose all movable and immovable assets of the deceased as of June 12, the date of his death. This comes amid a legal battle between Priya and Karisma Kapoor's children, who claim Priya forged Sunjay's will to gain control over his estimated Rs 30,000 crore estate. The court will consider an ad-interim injunction in three weeks.
