Actress Shreya Dhanwanthary, known for her work in Scam 1992 and The Family Man, slammed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for trimming down a kissing scene from the new Superman movie. The film hit the theatres on July 11, 2025, and received positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Superman has overshadowed its contenders like F1, starring Brad Pitt and Jurassic World Rebirth.
On Saturday, Shreya Dhanwanthary took to her IG Story and criticised the censor board for trimming a major kissing scene from Superman. According to a report in ETimes, she wrote, "CBFC deletes 33-second-long ‘sensual visual’ in Superman. They want us to go to the theatres. They want us to stop pirating stuff. I don’t understand. Why make the theatre going experience so horrible then? LET US DECIDE WHAT WE WANT TO WATCH!!!! Let us decide what we want to do with our time and money!"
"WHAT RIDICULOUS CRAP THIS IS!!! Then they blame the audience and say that we don’t go to the cinemas anymore and then wonder why people watch mediocre crap on OTT's and TV. It is because you are making the other options intolerable!!! A cinema hall is THE best way to experience a film. You are killing this and us by treating us like children," she further added.
CBFC cuts intimate kissing scene from Superman
In the movie, David and Rachel share two kissing scenes which have been removed by CBFC ahead of the film's release in India. The CBFC-approved theatrical version of the film didn't entirely remove the intimate scenes but trimmed several seconds to tone down their sensuality. According to Bollywood Hungama, a total of 33 seconds were cut.
