A Mumbai court has issued a notice to Rhea Chakraborty, asking her to respond to the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The CBI filed its closure report in March, concluding that the actor's death was a result of suicide and there was no evidence of foul play or external involvement. The report was initially submitted to a magistrate's court in suburban Bandra before being transferred to the Esplanade court in South Mumbai, which handles CBI cases.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R D Chavan issued the notice to Rhea Chakraborty earlier this month, giving her an opportunity to challenge the CBI's decision to close the case. The matter will be heard next on August 12, where the court will decide whether to accept the CBI's closure report or order further investigation.

Rhea Chakraborty had filed a complaint against Sushant Singh Rajput's sisters, Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh and a doctor, alleging they were responsible for his death by providing him with prescription medicines without proper medical supervision.

The CBI took over the case from the Bihar Police, which had registered an abetment of suicide case against Rhea Chakraborty based on a complaint filed by Sushant's father, KK Singh. The agency recorded statements from Rhea Chakraborty and others in Sushant's close circle and collected the actor's medical records during its investigation.

Sushant Singh Rajput tragically died by suicide at his Bandra residence in Mumbai in June 2020. The circumstances surrounding his death led to various controversies and investigations. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) probed allegations of his involvement in a drug ring, filing abetment charges against several individuals. The CBI took over the case and, after a thorough investigation, filed a closure report on March 22, 2025, concluding that there was no evidence of foul play.

Rhea Chakraborty, who was sent to jail, recalled her jail experience in an interview. According to News18, she said, "It’s frustrating; they’re languishing, but they know when and how to catch that happiness. And it can be as small as a samosa on a Sunday. It can be as small as somebody dancing for them. So it’s just perspective; it’s how you look at it."

"At that point, yes, my life was in the worst hell it could have been. But heaven or hell is a choice in your head that you can make. It’s difficult to choose heaven each time. But the battle is of the mind and if you have the strength and desire in your heart, you’ll most definitely battle the mind and win," she further added.
