Robo Shankar Death: Tamil actor and comedian Robo Shankar passed away on September 18 at the age of 46, just a day after collapsing on a film set. He was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai, where doctors shifted him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to fluctuating blood pressure. Despite continuous medical care, his condition worsened, and he breathed his last a few hours later. The actor’s body will be taken to his residence in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, with last rites scheduled to be performed on Friday. He is survived by his wife, actress Priyanka Robo Shankar, their daughter Indraja Shankar, and family members.
The news of his untimely demise has shocked fans and the film fraternity. Veteran actor Kamal Haasan, whom Robo Shankar admired deeply, shared an emotional note on X. In Tamil, Haasan remembered him as a younger brother, writing that “Robo is just a pseudonym, but in my dictionary, you are human. You left too soon, leaving behind unfinished work.” His tribute struck a chord with fans who knew of Shankar’s admiration for the legendary actor. Robo Shankar was a self-proclaimed fan of Kamal Haasan and often sought his blessings before beginning new projects. He celebrated Haasan’s milestones as if they were his own, making their bond well-known in industry circles.

Meanwhile, Robo Shankar, born as Shankar, earned his nickname from his early days when he performed robot dance acts in village fairs and TV shows. Over time, he became a household name in Tamil cinema and television. He began his career with uncredited roles in the late 1990s, even appearing in Rajinikanth’s blockbuster Padayappa. His big breakthrough came with Vijay Sethupathi’s Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, which established him as a talented comedian. He went on to star in several hit films, including Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Maari, Velainu Vandhutta Vellakaran, Si3, Pa Paandi, Velaikkaran, Visvasam, Irumbu Thirai, and Singapore Saloon.

Recently, Shankar had battled jaundice, which left him visibly weak and sparked concern among fans. However, he returned to work and was last seen in Sun TV’s cooking reality show Top Cooku Dupe Cooku, from which he had recently been eliminated. Robo Shankar’s sudden passing has left a void in the Tamil film industry, with colleagues and fans mourning the loss of a performer who brought laughter and joy to countless households.
