The Bengal Files: The Bengal Files movie’s recently released trailer is making headlines and it does not hold back, it roars with intensity. Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Agnihotri, Abhishek Agarwal, and Pallavi Joshi, the film continues the director’s hard-hitting Files franchise, following the successes of The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files. The film promises to be a stirring cinematic experience, opening debates on Bengal’s dark history of communal violence and political unrest. Set against the violent political history of West Bengal, The Bengal Files confronts a side of Indian history rarely spoken about. Inspired by real testimonies and historical events, the film sheds light on the long-ignored Hindu genocide.
What Is The Real Life Story?
On 29th July 1946, the All-India Muslim League, under Muhammad Ali Jinnah, declared 16th August as Direct Action Day to protest the British government’s handling of India’s constitutional transition and to demand the creation of Pakistan. This decision followed the collapse of the 1946 Cabinet Mission Plan, which had initially been accepted by both the Congress and the League before the latter withdrew its support. Jinnah warned that the League was ready to use any means necessary, famously declared, “We have also forged a pistol and are in a position to use it.” Calcutta, governed by Chief Minister Saheed Suhrawardy, became the centre of the violence, which erupted on 15th August and continued until 19 August. Between 5,000 and 10,000 people were killed, mostly Hindus, and thousands more injured. The riots soon spread to Noakhali, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and beyond, intensifying communal tensions and pushing India towards partition in 1947. The Bengal Files movie is set for a worldwide release on 5th September 2025.
