Shefali Shah, the National Award and International Emmy-winning actor, is currently basking in the success of Delhi Crime Season 3. Fresh off success, she has become an unexpected force for change in an industry where demanding basic necessities is often seen as disruptive. In a candid conversation with NDTV, she admitted that even now, standing up for herself comes with an undercurrent of guilt.

"Luckily, I’ve worked with people who are respectful and sensitive," said Shefali. She also pointed to the other side of the industry—producers who quietly discourage actors from asserting their needs with phrases like, "Avoid this for now, it can’t happen." "Now I’m like, this is it. You can’t tell me I won’t have a van with a toilet. Let’s be realistic," she asserted.

"If I know we’re in a village with only one shade, of course I’ll sit under it," she said, adding, "I’m not asking you to build a hotel." "But if you can give something and you choose not to because you think I’m not worth it, then it’s okay—let’s not work together," she went on to state.

Shefali said, "Why do I need a big van? Because I have never, ever let my team stand out in the sun or the rain." She explained, "If my van is tiny and only I can sit or lie down, where is my team supposed to go?" She recalled the quiet forms of segregation that still exist on sets—like assistants trying to place a separate food order "just for her" — and how she immediately shut it down. "Please order from my card. I won’t waste my energy on this nonsense," she tells them.
