Mandala Murders is one of the most awaited thriller web series releasing on July 25, 2025, on Netflix. It stars Vaani Kapoor, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Surveen Chawla and Shriya Pilgaonkar in lead roles. Actress Vaani Kapoor’s detective skills will be put to use to investigate ritualistic killings in the town of Charandaspur. With this web series, Vaani Kapoor has stepped into a more intense and darker role, as compared to her other glamorous characters. Entering into a new genre comes with great difficulties, learnings and criticism.
Vaani Kapoor recently talked about challenging herself with this role and expressed her excitement about venturing into something new. During an interview with India Today, she expressed how happy she was to know that finally somebody was able to picture her in this kind of role. She said that she was intrigued with the storyline and felt that the story was strong. Vaani Kapoor also stated that Mandala Murders is not just about crime, but also blends mythology with it.
Vaani Kapoor further shared about the learnings from this project and candidly said, “Anything except flying like Superman - that’s for CGI!” The War actress revealed that during the shooting of Mandala Murders, she realised that she loved challenging herself. On being asked about her exertion and how she copes with it, the actress said, “I cry. I let it out of my system. I’m a deeply emotional person, but I’ve learnt not to let it overwhelm me to the point where I can’t function. People often tell me, “You should be thick-skinned by now.” But I’m not. And I don’t think I want to be. I take things to heart. I overthink - people who know me will agree!”
Being a celebrity, every action comes with a lot of criticism. Talking about facing criticism and how she deals with it, Vaani Kapoor mentioned that if it's constructive criticism, she values it a lot. “I ask myself, ‘Was I not good enough? Did something not connect?’ But you won’t get a pat on the back from everyone,” she said. Vaani Kapoor further stated that in today’s time, when people are paying for the tickets or subscription, they have the right to give opinions. But the actress also believes that if people don't have something constructive to say, they should not say anything at all.
Meanwhile, on the work front, this will be Vaani Kapoor’s debut in the OTT world as one of the lead detectives Rea Thomas. The show explores themes of fate, myth and murders with dark, hidden secrets.
