Varanasi Title Dispute: SS Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu's Film Faces Rights Dispute With CH Subba Reddy

SS Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra's upcoming movie SSMB29 is now titled Varanasi. However, days after the announcement, the film is facing a new hurdle with its title rights which currently lies with Rama Bramha Hanuma Creations, a company led by CH Subba Reddy. The title 'Vaaranasi' was registered with the Telugu Film Producer's Council by Rama Bramha Hanuma Creations in 2023 and they've renewed it until July 2026, according to official documents.

The document read, "We have pleasure in informing you that after due consideration the Executive Committee of the Telugu Film Producers Council has approved registration of your picture title "VAARANASI" IN TELUGU LANGUAGE Title should be in bold, Even letters, same font & one line order. Accordingly the title has been registered in your favor for a period of 12 Months under Registration No: 940 Dt: 24.07.2025 with validity up 23.07.2026. We extend our good wishes to you for success of your picture."

"Please keep us informed about the progress in utilization of the title and oblige. In case you are unable to start the Film within 12 Months, the following rules will apply. (a) If you do not complete the Film within 12 Months validity period of the Title issued by the Telugu Film Producers Council and if you seek an extension for the renewal of the issued Title, this office would consider your request and will issue the Extension for the Title for a period of 12 Months only. For this, you have to submit the proof of work/shooting in progress i.e. Press Notes, Daily Wage, Bills of Federation Unions, Bills of Outdoor unit and details of Pre-production works etc and the enclosed documents must be signed by the Film Producer only along with the company Seal," the document further read.
