Veteran English actor John Woodvine, who appeared in over 70 stage productions at the Old Vic, the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company, An American Werewolf in London and The Crown, has passed away at the age of 96. His career spanned stage, television and films and had created a big name in the industry. Woodvine’s demise created a shockwave in the entertainment industry across the globe. The news of his demise was announced by his agent, Phil Belfield, who said that he died peacefully at his residence. The location of his home was not disclosed.
John Woodvine’s agent, Phil Belfield said in a statement, “John was an extraordinary actor and had a fabulous and varied career in all areas of the industry including work on stage in over 70 productions including at the Old Vic, National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company, and on screen in numerous roles including in Young Winston, An American Werewolf In London, Dragonworld, Persuasion, The Crown and most recently in the film Enys Men. John was greatly admired by all and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all those who met, knew and worked with him. We are all the richer to have known him.”

John Woodvine was born on July 21, 1929, in South Shields, County Durham. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 1953 and joined the Old Vic the following year. John Woodvine made his debut on The Silent Weapon in 1961. The English actor known for his work in movies and shows like An American Werewolf in London, Enys Men, New Scotland Yard, Knights of God, Z-Cars, Scotland Yard, Swallows and Amazons Forever!, The Dustbinmen and Macbeth to name a few. In 2016, John Woodvine appeared in four episodes of the Netflix series The Crown. The actor was last seen in Enys Men. The British movie, which also featured Mary Woodvine, Edward Rowem, Joe Gray, Flo Crowe and Callum Mitchell in key roles, released in theatres on January 13, 2023.
