AVM Saravanan Death News: AVM Saravanan, the veteran film producer and head of the iconic AVM Productions, passed away on Thursday morning in Chennai at the age of 86. He had been dealing with age-related health issues for some time. His death has created a deep void in Tamil cinema. According to reports, Saravanan’s mortal remains was kept at AVM Studios in Chennai until 3:30 pm on Thursday, allowing members of the public and the film fraternity to pay their last respects.

Meanwhile, actor Vidiyal Taju expressed his sorrow on Facebook, calling Saravanan ‘the elegance of simplicity’ and wishing that he would “return as the crown prince of Tamil cinema”. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin offered heartfelt condolences, praising Saravanan as one of Tamil cinema’s senior-most figures and recalling AVM’s long association with the Dravidian movement. Superstar Rajinikanth visited AVM Studios to pay his last respects, describing Saravanan as a man ‘with a heart as white as the clothes he wore’. Many across the film industry have gathered to honour the legendary producer and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.

Who Is AVM Saravanan?

Born in 1939, Saravanan was the son of A. V. Meiyappan, the visionary who founded AVM Productions. In 1958, Saravanan and his brother, M. Balasubramanian, took charge of the family business. Under their leadership, AVM entered a golden era and became known for producing films that were both commercially successful and critically praised. Over the decades, Saravanan backed many significant films. Naanum Oru Penn (1963) was an early success. Samsaram Adhu Minsaram (1986) became a major hit, followed by Minsara Kanavu in 1997. Later came the blockbuster Sivaji: The Boss in 2007, and Vettaikaran and Ayan in 2009. These films brought together top actors and acclaimed directors, strengthening AVM’s reputation as a leading production house. Saravanan’s contribution extended beyond films. In 1986, he served as the Sheriff of Madras.
