Kingdom 2 Shelved: The much-anticipated sequel to Vijay Deverakonda’s 2025 action thriller Kingdom has been officially cancelled. Producer Naga Vamsi has confirmed that Kingdom 2 will not move forward, bringing an end to months of speculation around the future of the franchise. The announcement has come as a disappointment to fans, especially since the first film was designed with sequel potential in mind.

Speaking in an interview with Idlebrain, producer Naga Vamsi clearly stated that the sequel has been dropped. When asked about the possibility of Kingdom 2, he said, "Yeah, there is no Kingdom 2." He further explained that revisiting the idea of a sequel would serve no purpose at this stage. Addressing whether Kingdom was meant to be a standalone film, he added, "There is no point it talking about it, other than hurting Gowtam." The producer’s comments have effectively put all rumours to rest. He further said, "But yeah, we will collaborate with Gowtam. He is doing a different film now. After that we will do a film." The duo has also already completed work on another film titled Magic, which has wrapped production but is yet to be released.

Meanwhile, Kingdom, which was initially known as VD12, was widely seen as the first chapter of a larger cinematic universe. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film starred Vijay Deverakonda as a troubled undercover police officer, alongside Satyadev Kancharana and Bhagyashri Borse in key roles. The film’s narrative left several threads open, hinting strongly at a continuation. However, despite the ambitious setup, Kingdom received mixed reviews and failed to perform strongly at the box office. This is believed to be a major factor behind the decision to cancel the sequel.

Vijay Deverakonda’s Upcoming Projects

While Kingdom 2 is no longer happening, Vijay Deverakonda is currently gearing up for his next major project, Rowdy Janardhana, an intense action film slated for release in 2026. With new projects lined up, Deverakonda is expected to move past the Kingdom chapter and focus on redefining his next phase on the big screen.
