Bollywood has recently been questioned for its practice of nepotism in the industry. From launching star kids to promoting their relatives’ work for a better reach, the celebrities have helped their connections enter and survive in Bollywood. In contrast to stars like Ahaan Panday, Ananya Panday, Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter and others, some actors like Akshay Oberoi didn’t choose that path. Known for movies like Gaslight, Pizza, Fighter, Piku and more, actor Akshay Oberoi is the nephew of the veteran actor Suresh Oberoi and the cousin of actor Vivek Oberoi. Recently, Akshay talked about his ‘not-so-real’ bond with Vivek in one of his interviews and shared that both of their families didn’t really get along well.
Vivek Oberoi has finally broken his silence about the ‘not real relationship’ comment and addressed the reality of their bond. During a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the actor said, “I did ask him myself what happened, and what is this interview about? He said ‘No, it’s been misinterpreted’, but best that he speaks for himself. As far as I’m concerned, I love Akshay and I am very proud of what he has done. As a family, we are always there at each other’s birthdays. They always come to our house on Diwali or my parents’ anniversary. So, we have a lot of celebrations together and we have some great memories of growing up together.”

Praising his cousin brother, Vivek shared how proud he was of him for making his own way in the industry without anybody’s help. “The one thing, though, which is true and I’m very proud of him for, is that he has made his path his own way, just like I’m proud that I did my own way too. I didn’t have any uncle, aunt, chacha, taya, mama saying ‘I’m gonna launch you and you are going to get a break because of me’. I never had that kind of any support system. Whatever I am today, I have been through the grind, worked hard and God’s been kind,” he expressed.
In case you are unaware of the duo’s dynamics, actor Aksay Oberoi recently spoke about his distant ties with Vivek Oberoi and his family. The actor, during an interview with Free Press Journal, mentioned that nobody in the industry knew about his connection with Vivek Oberoi. The Gaslight actor further called both the families ‘unlucky’ for not getting along with each other and expressed that it would have been fun if he and Vivek had worked together on this journey.
