Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic, Ramayana, is soon set to grace the silver screens with a stunning star cast consisting of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Yash, Kajal Aggarwal, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil and Lara Dutta. Produced by Namit Malhotra, the multistarrer movie released its first title glimpse across 9 key cities in India on July 3, 2025, marking the beginning of a truly global and historic cinematic rollout. Reportedly, Ranbir Kapoor will feature in his never-seen-before avatar as Lord Ram. The audience will get to see Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Rakul Preet Singh as Srupanakha and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodri.
Actor Hrithik Roshan was reportedly the first choice of the makers to bring Ravana’s role to life on screen. After this news broke out, there was a lot of excitement among fans as they were curious to see the on-screen rivalry between Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor. But the Krrish actor had to turn down the project. Reportedly, the star still believes that fans look at him as a hero. After several discussions with the makers, Hrithik Roshan decided to step out of the project. This led to a new search for the role of Ravana. Soon, the team found their Ravana in the KGF actor Yash. The south star showed extreme interest and said yes to take up the challenging role.
Similarly, as per a report in ETimes, the Heads Of State actress, Priyanka Chopra, was the first choice to play Srupanakha on screen, but the diva wasn’t able to make it to the cast. "Surpanakha is one of the main reasons the Ramayan took place. The makers were keen on having Priyanka Chopra for the same role. But things didn't work out owing to her packed schedule with international projects. That's when Rakul came on board. She fitted the role perfectly and brought intensity and a fresh take to the character," ETimes quoted a source.
