Why Emraan Hashmi Regretted His Unfiltered Remark About Aishwarya Rai? In the world of Bollywood, few talk show segments are as infamous as the rapid-fire round of Koffee with Karan. While it has produced countless viral moments, one of the most controversial instances occurred during the show’s fourth season in 2014, when Emraan Hashmi made a blunt remark about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
During the high-pressure game, host Karan Johar asked Emraan Hashmi to name an actor he associated with the word 'plastic.' Without hesitation, the Jannat star named Aishwarya Rai. The comment instantly sparked a firestorm of backlash from fans and industry insiders alike. While Aishwarya Rai never directly confronted Emraan Hashmi, she later hinted at the hurt in a 2019 interview, noting that the worst thing anyone had said about her was that she was 'fake and plastic.'
Reflecting on the incident in an interview with The Lallantop, Emraan Hashmi admitted that he had no malicious intent but was simply caught up in the competitive spirit of the show. He confessed, "At that time, I just wanted to win the hamper and I ended up saying what I said." He further stated, "I regret it because it was distasteful. Lately, people have become very sensitive. People get mad at everything on social media. In terms of the show, we were playing a game, it was all in jest. It was supposed to be taken sportingly."
Despite the awkward history, Emraan Hashmi remains a staunch admirer of the former Miss World. He recalled a time early in his career when he waited outside her vanity van for three hours just to see her after the release of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Expressing a sincere desire to clear the air, he said, "I have never met her. I have never had a conversation with her. I would love to meet her. And I would love to apologise if she felt bad about it. I will have to meet her and ask her. I am sorry if I offended you."
