Zubeen Garg Death: Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most beloved singers, passed away in Singapore on 19 September 2025, reportedly after drowning while swimming. He was due to perform at the Northeast India Festival the very next day. Singer Satabdi Borah, who often performed with the late Assamese icon Zubeen Garg, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Guwahati on Monday to record her statement in connection with Garg’s mysterious death in Singapore. Two Assamese expatriates from Singapore also joined the investigation and gave their statements to the authorities.
Speaking to reporters after the questioning, Satabdi expressed the deep concern felt by the people of Assam over Zubeen’s sudden death. She said, “The people of Assam are very anxious to know what really happened. I have full faith in the system that everything will be done properly, and Zubeen Da will get justice. If anyone is guilty, they must be punished.” Earlier, another Assamese expatriate from Singapore, Rupkamal Kalita, had appeared before the SIT and CID to record his statement.

According to the latest update his bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, recently claimed that the singer might have been poisoned in Singapore, which led to his death. Following this, the SIT and CID intensified their probe, arresting seven people linked to the case. Those taken into custody include the main event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, and Sandipan Garg, Zubeen’s cousin who is also an Assam Police Service (APS) officer currently suspended by the state government. Two of Zubeen’s personal security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, have also been arrested.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the CID had received the viscera report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Delhi. “The CID has now got a definite angle in the case,” the Chief Minister said. “Within a few days, the entire sequence of events related to Zubeen Garg’s death will be presented before the court.” The death of Zubeen Garg has shocked millions of fans across the Northeast and beyond. As the investigation continues, the people of Assam are hoping that the truth will finally come out and justice will be served.
