A tragic incident occurred at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) during a tech-fest, resulting in the loss of at least four students' lives and leaving several others injured. The unfortunate event unfolded during a music concert by singer Nikhita Gandhi, a part of the college's annual fest in Kerala Ernakulam. The mishap took place as students faced a stampede-like situation when it began raining during the concert, leading to chaos.

According to Kerala Higher Education Minister R Bindu, the students started running in response to the rain, creating a situation reminiscent of a stampede. In the haste, some students fell from the steps. Minister Bindu shared that the collector and the vice chancellor are currently at the hospital to assess the situation and provide necessary support. This incident has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory event, prompting authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

According to News 18, Kochi Municipal Councilor said, “Exit and entrance through the same gate led to the stampede. Students were trying to enter through the same gate. Students who were entering through the steep steps fell down first and the huge crowd at the gate stomped them again and again.”
