A special court made a significant decision regarding the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) request to halt the airing of a documentary series featuring Indrani Mukerjea, a central figure in the suspicious Sheena Bora murder case. The court, presided over by CBI special judge S P Naik-Nimbalkar, declined the plea, asserting its lack of inherent authority to issue such directives.
No Halt On Netflix's The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth- Court
Judge Naik-Nimbalkar emphasised that the CBI could pursue alternative legal avenues if deemed appropriate. Notably, the judge highlighted the absence of any legal provision cited by the prosecution to support their request. This decision underscores the importance of adhering to established legal frameworks and seeking recourse within the bounds of the law.
For the unversed, the CBI had asked the court “to issue directions to accused and others concerned for staying/stopping the featuring of the accused persons and the persons connected with the case in the documentary by Netflix and its broadcasting on any platform till the conclusion of the ongoing trial.”
On Tuesday, the investigative agency contended that the documentary's promotional assertions of "new revelations" without substantiating evidence could potentially foster a prejudicial environment and lead the public astray.
