Oscars 2024: Robert Downey Jr has won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his stellar performance in 'Oppenheimer'. He was nominated alongside Robert De Niro, Ryan Gosling, Mark Ruffalo and Sterling K Brown. Before winning the Oscar, Robert Downey Jr won the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards in the same category. 

While accepting the award on stage, I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy — in that order." He further thanked his wife Susan for constantly loving and supporting him and said, "She found me as a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here, thank you.”

He added, "Here’s my little secret, I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris (Nolan) knew it, Emma made sure she surrounded me with one of the great casts and crews of all time –Emily, Cillian, Matt Damon, Blunt—and I stand here before you a better man because of it."

Based on the 2005 biography 'American Prometheus' by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin, the movie tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who played an important role in developing the first nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project.

'Oppenheimer' stars Cillian Murphy in the titular role. Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh were seen in pivvotal roles in the movie.
