From Tehran, starring John Abraham, to Tourist Family, set against the backdrop of economic challenges in Sri Lanka, among others, here is a list of latest movies inspired by true events that you can now enjoy from the comfort of your homes.

New Real-Life Based Indian Movies On OTT

Tehran

The upcoming Hindi action thriller Tehran, directed by Arun Gopalan and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Shobhna Yadav, and Sandeep Leyzell, is set to premiere on ZEE5 on August 14, 2025. The film stars John Abraham, Neeru Bajwa, and Manushi Chhillar, and is claimed to be based on true events. Fans can look forward to an intense thriller experience as the story unfolds on the popular streaming platform. It was originally slated for release on Republic Day 2023, but got delayed for reasons unknown.

Tourist Family

The 2025 Indian Tamil comedy drama movie Tourist Family has been written and directed by Abishan Jeevinth, in his directorial debut. The movie is set against the backdrop of economic challenges in Sri Lanka. It follows the story of a Sri Lankan Tamil family who is in search of safety and a better future. Tourist Family received critical acclaim for Abishan's direction and Roldan's score. It stars M. Sasikumar, Simran, Mithun Jai Sankar and Kamalesh in the lead roles, while Yogi Babu, M. S. Bhaskar, Ramesh Thilak, Bagavathi Perumal, Elango Kumaravel and Sreeja Ravi star in pivotal roles.

The Diplomat

The Diplomat is now streaming on Netflix. Set against the backdrop of real-life political events, the movie delves into the intricate world of diplomacy and international relations, while also shedding light on the personal struggles and conflicts that diplomats face in their high-stakes profession.

Kaafir

The movie revolves around the tragic story of a Pakistani woman, named Shehnaz Parveen, played by Dia Mirza, who was jailed for years in India. This came after Parveen tried to commit suicide and was carried across the border by a rushing river and was declared an illegal immigrant in India. Tragedy struck when she was locked in Indian jail and what she faced during her term is beyond tragic.
