If you are new to Kdramas and think that these series are full of swoonworthy love and romance, there is a whole genre of Korean dramas for boys who love to binge-watch fight scenes, clever plot twists, dark humour or a gripping mystery. While some Kdramas show revenge, some have compelling characters who refuse to back down.
For anyone wondering which Korean series to watch first, these five Kdramas offer different entry points, from boxing-inspired action to supernatural mysteries and comedy.
Kdramas Every Guy Should Start With
1. Bloodhound
Cast: Woo Do-hwan, Lee Sang-yi, Huh Joon-ho
What is it about: If you are into boxing and sports, Bloodhounds is a good starting point. This Kdrama follows two young boxers, Kim Gun-woo and Hong Woo-jin, who join forces against a ruthless loan shark exploiting financially vulnerable people.
The series goes beyond its intense fight sequences. The friendship between them gives the story its emotional centre.
Why watch it: It has a straightforward premise, impressive combat sequences and just eight episodes in its first season.
Perfect if you love: Boxing, action films, bromances and underdog stories.
2. Weak Hero Class 1
Cast: Park Ji-hoon, Choi Hyun-wook, Hong Kyung
What is it about: Weak Hero Class 1 is less classroom romance and more about bullying, friendship, insecurity and the consequences of violence.
Kdrama follows Yeon Si-eun, a brilliant but physically unimposing student who uses his intelligence and his surroundings to fight back against bullies. As the story unravels, his friendship with Ahn Su-ho and Oh Beom-seok becomes central.
Why watch it: Its eight-episode season delivers a tight, emotionally charged story rather than stretching the conflict unnecessarily.
Perfect if you love: School thrillers, tactical fights and intense friendship dramas.
3. Kingdom
Cast: Ju Ji-hoon, Ryu Seung-ryong, Bae Doona
Why is it about: Kingdom is neither a royal drama with kings and queens nor a staple zombie thriller. This Kdrama mixes both. It combines historical intrigue with survival horror.
Set in Korea's Joseon era, the story follows Crown Prince Lee Chang as he investigates disturbing rumours about his ill father. His investigation leads him towards a mysterious plague that threatens the kingdom.
Unlike a conventional zombie series, Kingdom makes political power, corruption and competing ambitions just as dangerous as the infected.
Why watch it: It is a smart choice for anyone who enjoys survival games, horror films or political conspiracies.
Perfect if you love: Zombie thrillers, historical battles and stories about survival.

4. Moving
Cast: Ryu Seung-ryong, Han Hyo-joo, Zo In-sung, Lee Jung-ha, Go Youn-jung
What is it about: If you love superhero movies, Moving offers a different kind of Korean drama. This series follows teenagers who possess extraordinary abilities and their parents, who carry dangerous secrets of their own.
The students attempt to keep their powers hidden while a mysterious organisation begins hunting people with unusual abilities.
Why watch it: This Korean drama beautifully blends superhero cinema and character-driven television. However, its 20 episodes require a bigger time commitment.
Perfect if you love: Superhero films, secret abilities and interconnected character stories.
5. Vincenzo
Cast: Song Joong-ki, Jeon Yeo-been, Ok Taec-yeon
What is it about: Vincenzo follows a stylish Korean-Italian mafia lawyer who returns to South Korea and takes on a powerful conglomerate using its own ruthless tactics.
As the show unravels, there are absurd situations that mix revenge, courtroom manoeuvres and dark comedy.
Why watch it: The mix of crime, clever schemes and comedy makes it a useful introduction for someone who wants more than straight action.
Perfect if you love: Mafia stories, antiheroes, revenge plots and dark humour.
