The 1972 film Pakeezah has been one of the cult movies of all time showcasing Meena Kumari in the lead. Directed by Kamal Amrohi, the film created a sensation among the audience then. Recently, Heeramandi star Sharmin Segal compared her performance in the web series with the late actress’ performance in Pakeezah. Sharmin claimed she was inspired by Meena Kumari’s performance in the movie and tried to highlight ‘nothingness’ in her performance.

Kamal Amrohi’s stepson stepson Tajdar Amrohi has reacted to Sharmin’s ‘nothingness’ comment. In an interview with Zoom, Tajdar said “(Laughs) I don’t know Sharmin. But no, I can’t relate to her statement on nothingness.” He said that there has a massive difference between Sharmin’s and Meena Kumari’s performance. Tajdar felt that Heeramandi and Pakeezah could not be compared. He said, “Zameen aasman ka fark hai between Heeramandi and Pakeezah. Don’t compare the two. Nobody can make Pakeezah again. Neither Meena Kumari nor Kamal Amrohi can ever be born again.”

Tajdar also shared that Heeramandi's director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has always been his father’s fan. He added, “Main iske baare mein bolna nahin chahta kyunki Bhansali is a big fan of my father Kamal Amrohi. In every film of his, Bhansali tries to take the shots in a very similar way as my father did.” Amrohi also recalled an incident when Bhansali was searching for a set that Kamal had worked on. It was 15 years ago when he visited the Kamalistan Studio, where he touched the ground where Kamal Amrohi sat.
