Pankaj Tripathi got immense popularity by playing the role of Sultan Qureshi in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur. Recently, the actor recalled some fond memories from the set. He also claimed that similar kinds of sets are not there anymore. He also asserted that in films they are just the actor but in real life, they have to play the role of actor and director as well.
In an interview with News18, Pankaj said “I have such fond memories from the shoot of Wasseypur. It was winter in UP. The actors were all from a theatre background. Wasseypur jaisa mahaul ab set pe nahin milta. Ab alag alag vanity vans aati hai, sab apne apne room mein shot nahi hai toh bandh hai. Wasseypur mein aise nahin hota tha kyunki vanity hee nahin thi! Bahar kursi lagake baithte hai aur baatein zyada karte the (One cannot imagine such an atmosphere on any film set in today’s time. Today, celebs are usually in their own vanity vans when they are not in a shot. But back then, there were no vanity vans per se. They would lay out chairs for all of us outside, and we would sit and talk for hours).”
“In films, we are just actors. But in real life, we are both the actor and the director. If we misdirect, we will become someone else. Relatability is extremely important to connect an actor with the audience, but it has to be organic and that’s where craft comes into play,” he added.
Pankaj Tripathi will be next seen in Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2. The movie also stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Flora Saini, Aparshakti Khurana, Vijay Raaz and Aakash Dabhade in key roles. Tamanna Bhatia, Varun Dhawan and Abhishek Banerjee will make a cameo appearance in the film. The movie is scheduled to be released in theatres on 15th August.
