Filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus film Ponniyin Selvan 2 has hit the Rs 100 crore mark in India within 4 days of its release. The film released theatrically in India on April 28, 2023 in 5 languages including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Box Office Collection Day 4
On Day 4 of its release in India, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has collected over Rs 25 crore. The film has collected nearly Rs 20 crore in Tamil and nearly Rs 2 crore in Hindi. Overall, Ponniyin Selvan 2 total box office collection in India stood at Rs 105.02 crore nett according to Sacnilk. Worldwide, the film has grossed over Rs 166 crore.

The period drama features a star-studded cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles. R. Sarathkumar, Jayaram, Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R. Parthiban features in pivotal roles in the film.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Plot
The plot of Ponniyin Selvam 2 picks up after the first part. Arulmozhi Varman continues on his journey to become Rajaraja I, the greatest ruler of the historic Chola empire of south India.
Speaking about the film going on floors nearly 5 years ago, actor Jayam Ravi said none of the cast members had any inclination towards how the time flew. Jayam Ravi added, "We are emotional, words are not coming out of our mouths, and the thoughts are heavy now. I have cried enough. It's the moment of realisation that made me emotional one day but I have realised that it is emotional, this travel,” the actor said in a press interaction.
Karthi added, "Best moments in life, you cross then realize, whereas this film we knew from day one that this film is very special. So take in as much as you can. I think me and Ravi worked together a lot and we would say 'macha we will not get it again'. Enjoying this, riding on a horse, falling on the horse, every bit of it.”
