Poonam Pandey shocked the nation earlier this month with her fake death controversy. The model-actor faced heavy trolling on social media for faking her death with netizens calling it a ‘publicity stunt’. Now, on Tuesday, Pandey opened up about the same, stating that people have been monetarily benefitted from the whole episode.

Poonam Pandey took to her official X account and shared a long statement. She wrote, “Honestly I am happy that my post did manage to reach many people and made them aware of cervical cancer. Which is what I only wanted to do. But what hurt me is that some people benefited monetarily and drove me into the cause but I will always stand by it and continue to lend my support now and forever. But rest is for you all to investigate who made it commercial."

A shocking twist unfolded on February 2 when Poonam fooled the nation by posting on her official Instagram account that she had succumbed to cervical cancer. Adding to the confusion, her manager corroborated the news to various news outlets, stating that Poonam had passed away from cervical cancer at the young age of 32.

Later, Poonam herself shared an Instagram video in which she was heard saying, “I am alive. I didn't die of cervical cancer. Unfortunately, I can't say that about those hundreds and thousands of women who have lost their lives because of cervical cancer.”

For the unversed, Poonam Pandey's stunt backfired on social media, facing backlash for publicity stunt. Now, Poonam and her husband Sam Bombay are faving a Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit filed by Faizan Ansari in Kanpur.

The FIR read, "Poonam Pandey and her husband Sameer Bombay have fabricated a false conspiracy of death. Along with this, they have made a big joke of diseases like cancer. Poonam Pandey orchestrated all this drama for her publicity and has played with the trust of millions of Indians as well as the entire Bollywood industry."
