Prateik Babbar got married to Priya Banerjee on February 14 this year at his late mother and actress Smita Patil’s house in Mumbai. The wedding was attended by close family and friends, but the absence of his father, Raj Babbar and half-siblings Aarya and Juhi Babbar created a buzz online, sparking speculation about a family feud. Amidst this, Prateik has finally shared the reason behind not inviting his father and family to the wedding.

Prateik, in a recent conversation with Zoom, revealed the real reason behind the absence of his family on his big day. The wedding venue played a crucial role in the decision. The actor shared that his mother, Smita Patil and step-mother Nadira Babbar had issues in the past, and to respect that, he didn't want to invite Raj Babbar and his family to the wedding that he hosted at Patil's house.

He said, "My father’s wife and my mother had some complications in the past, lots of things have been said in the press and stuff like that if you dig out 38-40 years ago. I was open to doing something with my father and his family for another function. I just thought it was unethical to have him and his family at that house when after everything had went on between them. Absolutely, it wasn’t right. The right thing to do was what we did, and then if, obviously, now circumstances are different, everything has gone South, and it’s extremely complicated. But it’s not for me. I’m still the same."

Emphasising his decision was made to honour and show respect to his mother, who raised him alone. “It wasn’t about rejecting anyone. It was about respecting my mother and her wishes… I’m sorry my father and his wife could not be there, could not be in the house my mother bought for me to grow up and live a life as a single mother. She wanted to live in that house with me as a single mother. Bring me up. I’m sorry. That was the best decision my wife and I made. And it could have been a very, very subtle scenario, and everything could have been subtle."

Reacting to the reactions of his family on not inviting them, he stated, "But people are impulsive, people make impulsive choices and say things out of impulse, and it was just distasteful, and I think that bitter taste has remained."

Babbar Family Feud Controversy

The feud in the relationship of Raj Babbar and his younger son came to the spotlight after Prateik got married to Priya Banerjee on Valentine’s Day, February 14 and didn’t invite the Babbar family to the wedding.

In 1975, Raj Babbar married his first wife Nadira Babbar, and they are parents to two children, Juhi Babbar and Arya Babbar. Then, the veteran actor tied the knot with late actress Smita Patil in 1983 and welcomed their son, Prateik, in 1986. After Smita Patil's untimely death from childbirth-related complications, Raj Babbar reunited with Nadira Babbar, rekindling their relationship.
