Queen of Tears and Lovely Runner are two of the most popular Kdramas of 2024. The two Kdramas have broken viewership records and brought back the audiences to the rom-com genre. The rom-com genre dominates the release of dramas in the current year. On August 22, 2024, the NEWSIS K-EXPO took place in Seoul, celebrating the contributions of individuals to the advancement of K-culture over the past year. The event, supported by various Korean government bodies and organizations, honoured several notable figures in the entertainment industry.

Kim Soo Hyun was awarded the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Award for his role in Queen of Tears. In his heartfelt speech, he thanked his fans for their overwhelming support and expressed his gratitude to the team behind the drama. Kim Soo Hyun promised to continue delivering exceptional performances in the future.

Kim Hye Yoon received the National Assembly’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee’s Chairman Award for her role in Lovely Runner. The host of the event praised Kim Hye Yoon as a leading figure in K-romcoms and highlighted her sold-out fan meetings and acclaimed past roles. In her acceptance speech, Kim Hye Yoon expressed her honour of being part of Hallyu dramas and thanked everyone involved in Lovely Runner and the viewers for their support. She vowed to keep working hard to promote Hallyu dramas and movies globally.

Go Min Si was honoured with the Seoul Mayor Award for her work on Sweet Home Seasons 1-3. Reflecting on her journey with the series, Go Min Si shared how it has shaped her career and global popularity. She promised to continue engaging in impactful projects with compelling stories.

Chae Jong Hyeop received the Seoul Tourism Organization’s President Award for his roles in Eye Love You and Serendipity’s Embrace. He expressed his joy and honour at receiving the award and committed to improving his performance while wishing everyone continued health and happiness.

Other notable awards included the Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Chairman Award, which went to H1-KEY and PLAVE and the Korea Creative Content Agency Award, which recognized MODHAUS’s CEO Jaden Jeong for his work with tripleS. The Hallyu Special Award was given to Big Ocean.

The NEWSIS K-EXPO showcased the vibrant and diverse contributions of the Korean entertainment industry, with winners expressing gratitude and commitment to their craft.
