Park Sung-Hoon, known for his role as a transgender character in Squid Game Season 2, recently addressed the controversy surrounding an explicit parody of the show that he accidentally shared on Instagram. The actor, who has received praise for his performance, found himself under scrutiny for his actions during South Korea’s national mourning period.

On December 30, Park Sung-Hoon posted a cover parody of Squid Game by a Japanese actor on his Instagram story. Although he quickly deleted the post, it had already caught the attention of netizens. The timing of the incident added to the backlash, as the country was observing a seven-day mourning period following the tragic Jeju Air crash.

In an interview with Korea Economic Daily, Park apologized for his actions, stating, "I came here with a heavier and more nervous heart than ever before. I am truly sorry that I might have caused damage to the production made by the hard work of so many people, including the team, staff, and actors."

Park explained that the upload was accidental. He revealed that he had come across the photo in his direct messages while rushing to leave for a scheduled appointment. "While exchanging the show’s reactions with the organizer, I think I accidentally posted it to my story while sending it," he said.

He also addressed rumours about using multiple accounts, clarifying, "I have never owned any subaccounts other than the official account I use. Of course, I deleted the photo immediately, and I have no intention of watching or have ever watched the video."

The controversy caught the attention of Squid Game director Hwang Dong-Hyuk, who expressed disappointment over parodies distorting the show’s message. He also voiced frustration at Park’s actions, seeking an explanation for the incident.

In response, Park took full responsibility and expressed regret. "I felt a lot of regret and blamed myself for the inconvenience my mistake had caused," he said. Fighting back tears, the actor promised to be more mindful in the future.

Park admitted that the situation has left him deeply affected. "Right now, I am at a point where I don’t even want to touch my phone," he confessed. Despite the positive feedback for his performance, he said he is unable to fully enjoy the moment.

The actor concluded by stating, "A mistake is a mistake, but I still believe it was wrong. The first thing I need to do is take responsibility and endure the consequences." Park Sung-Hoon, who has been in the acting industry for 15 years and is known for his roles in The Glory and Queen of Tears, is facing his first major controversy.
