R Madhavan has been gearing up for his upcoming release, Test, which is slated to release on Netflix on April 4. The actor recently opened up about why he took four years of break from the film industry. Madhavan said that he was very disillusioned by the kind of work he was doing at that time. He shared an incident when he got offended by a Swiss farmer’s gesture during the shooting of a film. The actor then realised that he was following the path of others without focusing on what he actually wanted.

In an interview with India TV,  R Madhavan said “I had to take a break because I was very disillusioned by the kind of work I was doing. I was shooting a Tamil song in Switzerland, wearing orange pants and a green shirt. I was gyrating to the music. I was in the middle of the road, and I saw this Swiss farmer looking at us with complete disdain and shaking his head. I looked at him and said, ‘You come to Chennai, I’ll show you who I am’. I was really offended, but it struck me suddenly that I am literally dancing to other people’s tunes.”

“My wife looked at me one morning and said, ‘You’re going to work like you want to come back from it’. I said yes. So, I took a break. I wanted to understand where the country is going, what are the kind of things that people are appreciating. I stopped acting. I stopped doing even ad films. I grew a beard. I travelled across India and understood what really matters, how the rickshaw guys are talking. And that insight of four years is probably what I’m eating off right now,” he added.

Coming back to the Test, the film also stars Nayanthara and Siddharth in the lead roles. Apart from the Test, Madhavan is also working on other projects like Kesari Chapter 2 and De De Pyaar De 2.
