Indian megastar Rajinikanth shared his happiness as his friend and late actor Vijayakanth was honoured with Padma Bhushan. At the same time, he also expressed his grief that his late friend is not there in the world anymore. Appreciating his dedication towards his work commitments, Rajinikanth stated that there will be no one like Vijayakanth anymore. The star further mentioned that he misses him so much. Vijayakanth, who took his last breath on December 28, 2023, was also the founder and leader of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK Party). 

Rajinikanth’s video message was posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Vijayakanth’s owned news channel Captain News. In the video, the legendary actor said “The central government honoured late actor and my friend, Vijayakanth, with Padma Bhushan. The Padma 2024 books will have his history and it’s a celebratory occasion. It’s also a top honour for him. I cannot fathom that Vijayakanth is still not with us. He came, achieved a lot and left us all. We can never see anyone like him. I miss him dearly. Our Captain was a Madurai veeran (warrior). Thank you.”

Vijayakanth’s wife Premalatha received the third-highest civilian award on behalf of her late husband in Delhi on 9th May 2024. President Droupadi Murmu presented Padma Bhushan to Premalatha. President Murmu took to X and shared the news, “President Droupadi Murmu confers Padma Bhushan in the field of Art upon Captain Vijayakant posthumously. He was an eminent actor of the Tamil film industry recognised for promoting patriotic values through his films. Shri Vijayakant was also known for his humanitarian efforts towards impoverished families and for supporting struggling actors.”

Vijayakanth has given power-packed performances in several movies including Maanagara Kaaval, Chinna Gounder, Vaanathaippola, Amman Kovil Kizhakale, Chokka Thangam, and Thavasi to name a few. The actor appeared in 154 movies and was one of the most popular stars in the South Indian film industry. The Cinemaholic listed him among the top 20 best Tamil actors of all time.
