The iconic Indo-Japanese animated film, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, made its debut at the Maha Kumbh mela in Prayagraj on January 22nd, marking a historic moment in cinematic history. This special screening was attended by over 200 school-children, who were introduced to the anime based on Valmiki's Ramayana for the first time.
The event coincided with the first anniversary of the 'pran pratishtha' ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, adding to its significance.
The welcome note was delivered by Shri Asim Arun, Minister of State Social welfare & SC/ST Welfare of the Uttar Pradesh government, setting the tone for the momentous occasion. Notably, this is the first time a film has made a pre-release debut at the Maha Kumbh festival, which is widely recognized as the world's largest human gathering. The Maha Kumbh mela, held every 12 years at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers, offers an auspicious platform to introduce this cinematic retelling of Lord Rama's journey.
Directed by Koichi Sasaki and Ram Mohan, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama is a notable and internationally acclaimed work in cinematic history. The film masterfully combines the richness of Indian storytelling traditions with fine Japanese artistry, making it a standout in the world of animation.
The film's release across cinemas in India on January 24th, 2025, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and English, is highly anticipated. It will be distributed in Ultra HD 4K by Geek Pictures India, AA Films, and Excel Entertainment, ensuring a visually stunning experience for audiences.
