Ranveer Singh Karntara Controversy: Ranveer Singh has found himself at the centre of a legal storm in Bengaluru. A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against him for allegedly mocking the sacred Daiva tradition of Coastal Karnataka. The incident reportedly took place during a stage performance at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28, 2025. The legal proceedings were initiated following a complaint by Prashanth Methal, a Bengaluru-based advocate. The High Grounds Police Station registered the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after receiving specific directives from the 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.

Meanwhile, the controversy stems from an act performed by Ranveer Singh in the presence of actor-director Rishab Shetty, the creator of the Kantara franchise. According to the FIR, Ranveer mimicked the divine expressions associated with the Panjurli and Guliga Daiva in a manner described by the complainant as "crude, humorous, and disparaging." Furthermore, the advocate alleged that Ranveer referred to the Chavundi Daiva, who is a revered guardian deity representing justice and divine feminine energy, as a "female ghost." 

Furthermore, Prashanth Methal, who identifies as a devotee of the Chavundi Daiva, emphasised that the deity is his family’s guardian. He argued that portraying these sacred entities for the sake of comedy trivialises a spiritual practice that holds deep cultural value. Rishab Shetty has previously expressed his own discomfort regarding the mimicry of these rituals, urging the public and fellow artists to maintain a high level of cultural sensitivity.

Ranveer Singh has been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

Section 196: Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion.

Section 299: Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.

Section 302: Uttering words with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings.

On the other hand, the private complaint was initially filed on December 27, 2025. Following a review, the court ordered the police to formalise the investigation on 23 January 2026. The matter is now scheduled for a hearing on April 8, 2026. As of now, Ranveer Singh’s legal team has not issued an official response to this FIR.
