In a profound loss to the world of classical music, legendary singer Prabha Atre passed away at the age of 91 due to cardiac arrest. The incident occurred on the morning of January 13, and despite swift efforts to rush her to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, she unfortunately breathed her last before reaching.

Born on September 13, 1932, in Pune, Prabha Atre was a distinguished figure in the realm of classical music from the Kirana Gharana. Her illustrious career earned her three prestigious Padma awards - Padma Shri in 1990, Padma Bhushan in 2002, and the recently conferred Padma Vibhushan in 2022. Additionally, she was honoured with the Atal Sanskriti Award on December 25, 2023, by Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis.

Scheduled to participate in a program in Mumbai on the day of her demise, Atre's health took a sudden turn for the worse after suffering from cardiac arrest. The news of her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of music enthusiasts and the cultural community.

As per ANI, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar expressed his sorrow, saying, "Prabha ji's demise marked the end of a glorious era of classical music. Her passing is a significant loss to the country's music and art sectors." Similarly, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis conveyed his grief, stating, "Her departure is deeply painful; Indian music will forever be indebted to her. My heartfelt tribute to her, and may her family find strength in this trying time."

In response to the loss, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, has directed the administration to accord Prabha Atre's last rites with full state honours. As her relatives are currently abroad, the final ceremonies will take place in Pune on Tuesday upon their return.

Prabha Atre's legacy as a remarkable classical singer, coupled with her immense contributions to the cultural landscape, will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the music world. Her departure marks the end of an era, but her influence and artistry will continue to resonate for generations to come.
