‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ is hlemed by Karan Johar and stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles. The film also features Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, and Jaya Bachchan in pivotal roles. Turned out to be a blockbuster hit at the box office, the film shined throughout its cinematic run in the theatres and also marked Karan Johar’s return as a director after 7 years. ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ may have several real-life examples, however the plotline of the film is inspired by a popular Bollywood couple.
The director of the film, Karan Johar recently unveiled that subconsciously, the film is inspired by the relationship journey of Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Karan Johar said, “Maybe subconsciously (I got inspired). They have a tremendous friendship in their marriage. I've had dinners with them, meals with them, hung out with them. And there's a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie. He finds her hilarious, she finds him hilarious, for different reasons. So I felt it wasn't impossible for people who come from two different demographics of society, two stratas, to actually find love. It's like we put ourselves in boxes. Like when we're finding a relationship, we put ourselves in places where we're comfortable. But tomorrow, you can fall in love with someone anywhere.”

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna started dating each other while working on the sets of ‘International Khiladi’ by Umesh Mehra, released in 1999. The duo have a son, Aaran, and daughter, Nitara, and tied the knot in 2001.
On the other hand, Karan Johar went to the same boarding school as Twinkle Khanna, and wrote the character of Tina after her, in his debut directorial film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.’ The role was even offered to Twinkle Khanna, however Rani Mukerji was then finalised for the role, after Khanna rejected it.

The duo eventually fall in love with each other and in the process swipe their homes to adjust with their families, proving the power of their love.
