Romeo On OTT: The Tamil-language romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Vinayak Vaithianathan, is produced by Vijay Antony's daughter, Meera Vijay Antony. Starring Vijay and Mirnalini Ravi in lead roles, the movie features a soundtrack and background score composed by debutants Barath Dhanasekar and Ravi Royster. Cinematography and editing were handled by Farook J. Basha and Vijay Antony himself.
In Romeo, Vijay Antony portrays Arivu, a thirty-five-year-old Malaysian resident who has never experienced romance. However, a visit to his homeland leads him to fall for Leela (Mirnalini Ravi). While Arivu is smitten at first sight, Leela's aspirations as an actor drive her to see her arranged marriage to Arivu as an obstacle. Drawing inspiration from Mouna Ragam's Revathi, she seeks a divorce, but Arivu, deeply in love by then, devises a plan to make his one-sided affection reciprocated. Shot extensively in Malaysia, Bangkok, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Tenkasi, and Mahabalipuram, Romeo was theatrically released on April 11, 2024 and received mixed to negative reviews from critics.
Romeo Set On OTT: Release Date and Platform
Aha, the streaming platform, has announced on social media that the film will now premiere on May 10. Reports indicate that Vijay Antony and director Arun Prabhu Purushothaman, known for 'Aruvi,' are collaborating on a new project. Allegedly, Vijay Antony is enthusiastic about the script and has committed to acting in and producing the film under his own banner. While details about the project remain undisclosed, there has been no official confirmation of its development.
Romeo was panned for its screenplay and performances. The movie also features Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Ilavarasu, Thalaivasal Vijay, Sudha, Sreeja Ravi, and others in supporting roles. Arivazhagan, who returns from Malaysia, finds himself in an arranged marriage with the uninterested Leela, who dreams of pursuing acting and becoming a heroine. The story unfolds to reveal what transpires between the couple after their wedding.
