SS Rajamouli's period drama RRR, released in 2022, is without a doubt one of the most popular Indian films of recent years. The epic production stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in lead roles and has received numerous international awards and accolades, including the 2023 Golden Globe Awards and Hollywood Critics Association Awards. RRR has now entered the race for the 2023 Oscars, and movie enthusiasts are anticipating the film to make a significant impact at the esteemed awards ceremony.
Did SS Rajamouli Spent Rs 88 Crore To Promote RRR At Oscars, Golden Globes?
It should be noted that RRR was not chosen as India's official entry to the 2023 Oscars. Nevertheless, director SS Rajamouli and his team made the decision to enter the Academy Awards race independently, setting a significant precedent for the entire Indian film industry. The movie's creators also followed a similar approach when competing in major international awards ceremonies such as the Golden Globes and Hollywood Critics Association Awards.
According to recent reports, the creators of RRR have allegedly spent a staggering 83 crores on campaigning for the film's international award ceremonies, such as the Oscars and Golden Globes. Interestingly, a significant portion of this campaigning expenditure was contributed by director SS Rajamouli himself, from his personal account.

The remaining expenses, which constituted a smaller proportion, were funded by the box office collections of RRR in Japan and Russia. However, none of these reports have been officially confirmed yet.
For the unversed, RRR is in the running for the Oscars under the Best Song category for its popular song Naatu Naatu, which was composed by renowned musician MM Keeravani. What's interesting is that singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava are scheduled to perform the Naatu Naatu song at the 95th Oscar Awards ceremony on March 12, Sunday, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
