Rupali Ganguly condemned bias against television and demanded that TV artists be recognised at the National Awards. Her remarks came after the latest National Film Awards were announced. Actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Vikrant Massey were honored at the 71st National Film Awards. She also discussed how a new age of attention for TV actors may be ushered by the return of actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani to the small screen.
Rupali Ganguly highlighted that TV stars' efforts go mostly unrecognised while Bollywood enjoys the spotlight. The TV artists even worked during COVID-19, she pointed out in an open discussion with the paparazzi account Viral Bhayani.
Rupali Ganguly said, "There are National Awards for everyone—film stars, content creators. But there’s nothing for TV actors. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, we kept working. When a film star works continuously, it makes headlines. But no one talked about how we, the TV artists, worked non-stop during the pandemic. I request the government to recognise our efforts too. We work very hard."

Additionally, Rupali Ganguly anticipated that Smriti Irani's return would lead the TV industry in that direction. With a remake of the venerable Ektaa Kapoor show, Smriti Irani, who first gained popularity with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, is back on screen. Fans are feeling sentimental about the return, and viewers are already showing a lot of affection for the updated version.
"Smriti Irani returned to TV with the new version of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and it’s airing on the same channel as my show. I am very proud that Smriti ji returned to TV, it's such a big validation. Her comeback will make a lot of difference, and it will bring all the eyes back to television," Anupamaa actor shared.
Meanwhile, Rupali Ganguly's portrayal of Anupamaa has made her a celebrated name, as her Star Plus show continues to dominate the TRP charts for the fifth year in a row.
