The incident occurred when an intruder, identified as Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, broke into Saif’s residence with the alleged intent to steal. During the confrontation, Saif sustained stab wounds to his thoracic spine while intervening to protect his family and housemaid.
The accused was apprehended in Thane while attempting to flee to his native village in Bangladesh. Reports revealed that Saif underwent surgery to remove a 2.5-inch blade lodged in his back.
Following the incident, Saif’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, took to Instagram to request privacy for their family. “It has been an incredibly challenging day for our family, and we are still trying to process the events that have unfolded. I kindly request the media and paparazzi to refrain from relentless speculation and coverage,” Kareena wrote. She emphasized the overwhelming nature of constant scrutiny, urging everyone to respect their boundaries as they heal.
An auto-rickshaw driver, who rushed Saif to the hospital, shared his account of the night. He recounted seeing a woman trying to hire a rickshaw at 2 a.m. near Saif’s residence. Upon stopping, he noticed Saif, bleeding from his neck and back, being escorted out by others. The driver promptly transported them to Lilavati Hospital. “I later came to know that the man covered in blood was Saif Ali Khan,” the driver said.
The shocking incident has garnered widespread support for Saif from the film industry. At the trailer launch of his film Deva, actor Shahid Kapoor expressed concern, saying, “It’s a very sad incident, and the whole fraternity is concerned. This doesn’t usually happen in Mumbai, which we consider a very safe city. We are all hoping and praying for Saif’s swift recovery.” Celebrities like Sanjay Dutt, Genelia Deshmukh and Riteish Deshmukh have also visited the hospital to check on Saif’s health.
